Setting Realistic Goals
Thursday, December 22, 2016
As one year ends and another begins, we often look back and reflect upon our accomplishments in order to establish priorities for the year ahead. Whether your New Year's Resolution is to lose a few pounds, to stop procrastinating, or perhaps to be more positive, what's most important is to create realistically attainable goals that can be achieved with some effort within a reasonable time frame.
Setting goals isn't just for adults. When we teach our children the importance of goal setting, and the importance of working hard to achieve those goals, we are, in fact, giving them "life skills".
After misbehaving throughout Don't Be That KID! At School, our KID wakes up and looks at himself in the mirror. He reflects on the choices he's made and makes a decision about the kind of KID he wants to be moving forward. The start of a new year is the perfect time to have that conversation with your children/grandchildren/students. Who do they want to be in the New Year? Make a list of goals for 2017 and write down small, realistic steps that can be taken each day to achieve them. To "seal the deal," take the DON'T BE THAT KID! PLEDGE on page 69 of the Don't Be That KID! At School Resource Guide or download it from the website. Then refer to it during the year to assess the status of achievement.
